LAUREN'S CLEANSING GREEN SMOOTHIE. 4 Jan 2011
Grab your VitaMix! I start every morning with a greenie. After two weeks of overindulgence, I'm loving this cleansing green smoothie...It works! All of the ingredients are cleansing and detoxifying and it has a bit of a "zing" to it, so add agave to taste if you prefer yours a little sweeter.
Lauren's Cleansing Greenie
1 Pink Lady Apple
1/2 Cucumber
1 handful of Flat parsley
A thumbsize piece of ginger (peeled)
1/2 lemon (peeled)
1/2 cup of mango (I buy organic frozen mango when it's out of season)
1/2 cup of pineapple (I buy organic frozen pineapple when it's out of season)
1-1 1/2 cups of Kale

Which Vitamix machine do you have? i went on the website and have no idea which I should get?

Hey Lauren -
I've been playing with my new Vitamix and making green smoothies every morning ... and I have a question about portion size. How much do you drink in one sitting (if your smoothie is your breakfast)?

Are you a mind reader? :-) I was just talking to Anne about this last night. Thanks for the blog!

Hi! Good question. I usually make about 20 ounces. I'll drink 8-12 ounces in the AM and then finish the rest at some point in the day. I have to be honest, I don't "count" my smoothie calories or limit myself to one cup. Sometimes I drink it all in one sitting : )

Is spinach a good substitute for Kale? I find kale can be a little over powering.

Spinach isn't quite the same, but if you really can't do kale it's a reasonable substitute. Alternatively, try doing half spinach and half kale and see if that makes it a little less overpowering. You may be suprised at how sweet kale is in a smoothie! Not strong in flavor at all.

Okay. This is actually good. I had to cut the main stems and ribs away from the kale to use in my blender. It tastes yummy and I feel healthier just looking at it.

Hey, Lauren, this is awesome. One of my coworkers is a raw foodist (and a guy whose working up the strength to try Lithe! :) and he has a vitamix and makes smoothies daily. We're old college pals so I got in on the smoothie train. It's utterly amazing. My energy zooms through the roof and I finally have hope of busting my sugar cravings!
