OBSESSING? 30 Nov 2011

Jaclyn

As I try to lose the last of my baby weight, I notice that even I start to obsess about the last 10 lbs.  Try not to focus so much on the last 10, 20 or 30 pounds that you're trying so hard to lose.  It's just too discouraging.  Take it one day at a time and start with small goals.  When you get up in the morning, think, 'I have to go to Lithe and then make smart choices for lunch or eat a healthy snack while I'm sitting at my desk at work.'

Can't get through 30 pushups or plyos during class?  Do whatever you can do in the studio and finish the last 5, 10 or 20 at home to complete your 30.  I find that if you check your healthy habits off your daly to-do list, you'll spend less time obsessing and becoming discouraged over the daunting numbers.

Thank you so much for posting this! Sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves to see immediate results in an unreasonable amount of time. What I've been doing lately is re-evaluating and giving myself credit for the change I have seen-the ability to do 20 push ups, stronger shoulders, smaller waist, getting through sequences I couldn't before in classes-these changes are so important to acknowledge! It truly is the small goals that lead to the big results.

Lauren, Great post. Have you heard about the Real Girl Belly Project? http://www.xojane.com/fun/gallery/bellies-part-2 It asks women to send in pictures of their bellies without photoshop or sucking in.... You also have to say what you like about your belly. I sent a picture in and I was shocked that my belly-on-film is no where as big as my belly-in-my-head. I think we are often our own worst enemies. Some of our biggest body "flaws" don't even exist.
