BEACH RECOVERY SMOOTHIE! 13 Aug 2012
You know the shore drill: Drink, eat, beach, sun, salt, swim, go out, walk, bike, bbq, eat some more, drink some more, Repeat. This smoothie came out of pure necessity for me.
Known as the "kings" of fruits and veggies, kale, lemon and mango are rich in antioxidants, high in vitamins and minerals, and low in calories. Local honey also offers incredible antiseptic, antioxidant and cleansing properties. Turmeric is a potent anti-inflammatory and helps prevent cartilage from breaking down, reduces pain and inflammation. It can also reduce the levels of heterocyclic amines - carcinogenic compounds that are formed when meats are barbecued, boiled or fried - by up to 40 percent. Rodent studies at the University of Texas indicate that it also inhibits the growth of the dangerous skin cancer, melanoma.
Ingredients: Ice, 1 cup of filtered water, 1-2 handfulls of kale, 1 lemon peeled and seeded, 1 tablespoon of honey (add more to taste), 1/2 mango, 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric. *Blend well!
*I was without my VitaMix last week and this particular smoothie tastes significantly greener and chewier when mixed in a regular blender. Not for the faint of taste!
