EMERALD IS THE COLOR OF YOUR ENERGY SMOOTHIE 21 Oct 2013

Emerald is the color of your energy

Say bye-bye to your pale green smoothie.  Some days we need an extra boost.  This super green smoothie brings me back to life (and back to Lithe) every Monday.  I'm pretty much addicted.

Ingredients:  1 cup coconut water, 1 cup ice, 1 tablespoon coconut butter, 1 cup kale, 1 cup spinach, 1/2 frozen banana, 1 teaspoon spirulina, 1 teaspoon tocos, 1 teaspoon hemp powder, 2 dates, pinch of cinnamon and vanilla

To Do:  Blend until smooth. If you prefer your smoothies thicker reduce coconut water.

I'm usually pretty good with health food- but I have never heard of tocos- is that something you can get in the nutrition aisle at Whole Foods?

Hi Lauren, I purchase from this site: http://www.terrasoul.com/nutritional-powders/59-tocos-plus.html

You may be able to find tocos powder at Whole Foods or Essene Market in Philly.

Hi Lauren, I usually make smoothies at night and then put them in the fridge so they're cold in the morning. Are there advantages to using frozen vs. non-frozen bananas, or ice vs. water?

Personally I love to use frozen bananas because they keep more banana flavor when you blend them. Which means that you can out lots more healthy (and stronger flavored) greens and veggies in while still keeping the fruit flavor. I also love PB2 powder to make lower cal peanut butter and banana flavored smoothies. And I definitely want to check out some of these other natural health ingredients too!

*you can add lots

Thanks for the tips, Sarah!
