PRE-SUMMER LITHE "10" 30 May 2012

Lithe "10"

Here's to achieving your best you right before Summer.  Our "10" is back! Due to a lack of studio space, our "10" program has been MIA for over a year and now we're adding in a Lithe Foods component to really give you the results you're looking for (read our philosophy).

Hear this often?:  "Tired of making excuses?" or, "Ready to lose the last 10 lbs for good?" I've always said that hard work in the studio really pays off and diet is 85%.  Ninety-nine percent of the time, weight loss claims are meaningless.  We all know that it's the ingredients that count the most. Our program truly has both.

How do you know if the Lithe "10" is for you?  Do you need a kick-start?  Have you been in a bad food, no Lithe state of mind?  Are you looking for a total lifestyle change?  Have you been disorderly eating?  Do you need a little extra help?  Do you want to become stronger?  If you're ready to clean up your act, get conscious and back on track right before the heat of summer, we're here to help.  During our last June "10," 11 women lost over 65 inches, 65 lbs and gained a whole lot more.

Our Lithe "10" is a one-month, ten (75 minute per class) class Lithe program capped at 12 people taught by Lithe Founder, Lauren Boggi Goldenberg and a few other select Lithe Instructors. We're holding our June "10" at Lithe Old City on Monday's, Wednesday's and two Saturday's beginning on June 18th.

Our program is complete with one, three-day Lithe Foods detox plan ($225 value) beginning on Tuesday, June 19th and a fantastic, flab-fighting Lithe meal plan for you to do at home for the remainder of the month.

Confused?  Here's the breakdown:

- Lithe 10 is a series of 10 classes over 4 weeks, with a meal plan/nutrition element.  It consists of:

- 10 classes, all of which are 75 minutes long (instead of 60), taught by selected staff (Lauren & Elizabeth Howe are teaching the bulk of them but you may see Lithe vets, Tif and Bari as well).  These classes are specially designed for you.

- A three-day Lithe Foods Detox plan to kick off the program

- A Lithe meal plan/menu for the remainder of the 4 weeks (it's a 1,500-1,700 calorie a day written out menu designed by Lauren.  You purchase the ingredients and make meals at home for yourself).

- Ten 75 minute classes, 1 Lithe Detox Plan ($225) and 4 weeks of menus = $550.

Below are our set dates (much like the Immersion course).  Lithers must pre-pay/pre-enroll in the "10" by calling any Lithe Studio.  Unfortunately, you will not be able to use existing class cards/unlimited monthly or "drop in" to Lithe "10" classes at a class card rate.

Where to begin? As I reflect on the past 4 weeks, I'm filled with immense gratitude, joy, and a glorious sense of accomplishment. This experience has been one of the most fulfilling and rewarding journeys of my lifetime and I'm simply elated! To lose 10 pounds and 27 inches over the past 4 weeks is a significant milestone and has taught me very important lessons about determination and perseverance!

Between my work schedule and the incredible pressure I placed upon myself to excel, week 4 was a battle to the end! I worked exceptionally hard and as a result, had a really awesome week!

This week's food highlights included the DELICIOUS Spring (Break) Recovery Smoothie, Lithe Apple Crumble and my all-time favorite Strawberry Coconut Smoothie.

I burned 2,331 calories between 5 intense and fun classes:

  • · Sunday - Fat Free with Melissa
  • · Tuesday - Waspie with Melissa
  • · Wednesday - Spirit with Brooke
  • · Thursday - Sleeveless with Bari
  • · Saturday - Weightless with Lauren

I must also take this opportunity to give a very heartfelt thanks to Lauren (Boggi Goldenberg) and Melissa (Weinberg) for their incredible and unconditional support, meticulous planning, and overall awesomeness. You are extraordinary women and I am so blessed to have met you!

This journey has inspired me to continue my quest toward achieving optimal wellness and nourishing my body, mind, soul, and spirit!

Thank you, Lithe! :)

Lauren and I missed a photo op while I was away on vacation, so we combined weeks 2 & 3:

I must begin by thanking my fellow Lithers and instructors for their overwhelming support, encouragement, and well wishes. I'm so incredibly blessed to be apart of such a dynamic community and from the bottom of my heart, I thank you! :)

Week two proved to be significantly more challenging than week one! Between the daylight savings time change, my hectic work schedule, lower caloric intake, and additional Lithe classes I found myself fatigued and lacking momentum. Yet, I knew I had to persevere, maintain a positive perspective, and dig deep to ignite my insatiable appetite to succeed! My week kicked off with a super sweaty Fat Free with Elizabeth, followed by a very productive Waspie with Melissa, invigorating Spirit with Brooke, challenging and gratifying Sleeveless with Bari, and finally an upbeat and intense Higher Power with Elizabeth. Though I aspired to take 6 classes, I was only successful in taking 5. Food highlights included: harvest apple quinoa, winter recovery smoothie, portabella spinach ricotta crepes, green bubble tea, and Lithe lassi. By the close of the week, I was rejuvenated and committed to making week three truly incredible.

Week three was exceptionally busy yet proved to be my best week to date. Fat Free with Tiffany was a strong start to the week, Waspie with Melissa was excellent, Higher Power with Brooke was awesome, Sleeveless with Bari was vigorous, Tight End with Lauren royally kicked my tush and Twiggy with Elizabeth was super fun and energetic! Week three food highlights included: greek pita salad, zucquinoa lasagna and athena fritata.

I'm having such a wonderful and positive makeover journey and admittedly, I'm not ready for it to end! Though the past three weeks have been physically and mentally challenging, they've also been a remarkable testament to my fortitude, tenacity, and resilience!

I'm so pumped for week four and will make it my best week yet!

Week one in numbers:
  • 6 classes
  • 2,857 calories burned
  • 7 smoothies
  • 3 Toy Cow yogurts
  • Endless amounts of water
  • 1 refreshed, invigorated, and excited Lauren :)
Week one has come to a close and I'm filled with exuberance and a quiet but fierce determination! My week began with the level 3 detox plan and admittedly, adjusting to the menu required an open-mind and a healthy dose of perseverance but as the week progressed, each day proved a bit easier. On Thursday, I transitioned to more traditional foods and have enjoyed some very unique and tasty creations including my personal favs: the strawberry coconut smoothie, skinny chicken caesar salad, sunrise smoothie, horchata shake and greenest smoothie...yum!

In addition to my food adventures, I enjoyed a fun, challenging, and rewarding blend of classes (including 3 new ones):
  • Sunday - Barlesque with Bari
  • Tuesday - Waspie with Melissa
  • Wednesday - Higher Power with Brooke
  • Thursday - Sleeveless with Bari
  • Friday - Barlesque with Krista
  • Saturday - Twiggy with Elizabeth
Barlesque and Higher Power were the definite highlights of my week and have joined the ranks of my favorite Lithe classes!
All in all, week one proved successful - I'm finding my stride and eagerly await week two and what it will bring.

I am so excited about our third LitheStyle Makeover winner, Lauren F!  Lauren is one of the sweetest people in the studio and I know that she's going to have a great month!  Here's her first blog post:

I first discovered the Lithe Method in November 2011 and like many of you, I've been hooked ever since! The opportunity to take classes with such knowledgeable, nurturing, and motivating instructors is both empowering and inspiring, not to mention a truly incredible workout! When I reflect on the past few months, I'm so pleased with the progress I've witnessed both physically and mentally and really can't imagine life without Lithe.

So, when I discovered that I'd won the LitheStyle Makeover, I was absolutely astounded. I remember I was sitting in my office when my friend (and fellow Lither) exclaimed..."oh my gosh, you won!!!!!" Initially, I hadn't the slightest idea what she was referencing but once it resonated, I was met with a pure exhilaration! Fast forward a month and I'm finally kicking off my journey! As I embark upon this remarkable experience, I'm overwhelmed with tremendous excitement, enthusiasm, and a sincere desire to become the very best version of myself!

My classes are reserved, my food has been delivered and I'm absolutely thrilled to begin my LitheStyle Makeover!

Stay tuned! :)

{So sorry that we took so long to post these final results!  Paget and I had a few busy weeks and we were unable to get together.}

Week 4 completed!

I was very nervous about how many inches & pounds I would lose this month. I averaged at 4 classes a week before this month and with the addition on one class a week I was weary about whether my results would be significant. Fear not! The balanced diet and five classes a week have whipped me into a tauter, healthier version of myself. I notice everything fits a little looser, I have more energy when I first get out of bed in the morning and I no longer have crazy cravings mid morning and mid afternoon.

I definitely have some things I will take away from this experience. I have been given one snack a day outside of the three meals which has been my biggest fundamental takeaway. I used to eat when I was bored, I used to eat when I was upset, I used to eat when I was happy… I just basically ate all the time. Having more than one snack a day will definitely be okay as long as I make good choices, but I am making efforts to only eat when I am hungry or when my body needs it.
Chef Lauren sat down with me multiple times and was always looking to make sure I was feeling good/liking the foods and making sure that I was getting enough food. I felt supported and encouraged the entire time…. Come November when these glorious foods are offered for a meal plan I am definitely signing up!

As for the lithe guru herself, Lauren had me smiling throughout each nervous measuring meeting. My inches lost were gradual, but she always made me feel like each inch was such an accomplishment. Because it is. I was hard on myself in the beginning but I am very proud of my results and I couldn’t be happier to wake up again tomorrow and keep at it. Makeover month is over, but my life is not and my goals to reaching the healthiest me that I can be still continues; now I have more tools to work with and I am one step closer.

This week I loved Waspie w/ Bari. Bari makes me want to push myself harder every time and she makes me sweat so much. I can’t believe my first class with Melissa was in my last week this month. I can not say enough good things about Melissa. Since I started lithe, I have taken at least one class with her a week. I would organize to get out of work early to get to her classes, I would fake sick to get there, I would even flake on friends to get there. Now, Thigh High on Tuesday with Melissa had me sore until Saturday. Your muscles just don’t lie. Melissa, you are a huge reason why I love lithe so much and what keeps me coming back for more. Thank you you're incredible! Wednesday I had Waist Not with Stephanie. I had to skip out 10 minutes early, but I still love this class and can’t wait to keep taking it. My abs have to start showing up some day. I talk to them in the mirror sometimes begging them to show…. Still waiting on that. Thinny on Thursday w/ Joellyn will definitely help get those abs out from hiding! Whoa that class FLEW by! Joellyn, you make each exercise look so easy and I would kill to be half as strong as you are. Rare form on Saturday was a wonderful way to round out the week. I was very sore and I needed a good stretch. Thank you Jess!

Thank you all for your support and inspiration!

It’s official. Today is the 145th day of the “Living Lithe” column I’ve been writing for Fit.Hip.Healthy. That means that I’ve been reviewing classes and sharing my general musings with all of you for 63 days longer than Kim Kardashian was married to Kris Humphries. That’s what I call commitment! Those two could learn a few things from me.

I gotta admit, I’m a little shocked that the marriage only lasted 72 days. Call me crazy, but I was sure they were gonna be one of the ones that made it! Look at everything they have in common. They both have names that star with the letter “K”. Kris Humphries shares the same name and spelling as Kris Jenner, Kim’s mom (how many married couples can say the same?) Um. They both...well, that’s a lot by Hollywood standards!

Plus, TMZ has done some advanced math and figured out that at $10 million bucks for their lavish wedding ceremony, this marriage has cost the couple about $138,888 dollars a day. You better BELIEVE that I would be staying in that marriage at those rates. Even a Kardashian can’t afford to throw away that much money a day!

Can you imagine if each Lithe class cost 140 grand?? You would make it come hell or high water. Little Timmy’s got his first baseball game? Too bad! Mommy’s gotta go to Waspie, buddy. She’ll catch the highlights on Youtube. (He’s gotta have something to tell his therapist when he gets older right?) Priorities people!

I’m not married, but I imagine contemplating divorce is akin to what I go through when realizing I may have to “late cancel.” I agonize forever, move meetings around, postpone major life events, consult my friends, and consider getting a spiritual adviser. Get my monthly pass reduced by one whole day?? NEVAAAAAH!

But hey, who am I to judge? Being a celebrity sounds like a nightmare, and all I can hope is that Kim and Kris will learn something from this whole ordeal (thank God for prenups?) Because, like the end of the Humphdashian union, it is also the end of an era for me as I wrap up the Lithe Passport, and I too have to take stock of what I’ve accomplished and learned these past 4 months. And here are the top 5:

   1. My sweat-o-meter is wayyy off! Apparently, I just don’t sweat that much (it’s more like a light sheen). And after extensive Internet research (for those of you that don’t know I’m a WebMD), I have no idea if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. But, since it seems that many of my fellow Lithers break a sweat the moment they just hear the words High Mini, my sweat factor for the classes has been ZERO help to some of you. All I can say is, I’m sorry and I’m trying to drink more water.

   2. It really never gets easier. Don’t get me wrong. I feel incredibly stronger (wanna feel my arm muscles?), my form has drastically improved, and my stamina has seriously increased--but all that means is that I can go harder and longer and get more out of the workout.

   3. It’s so important to branch out with instructors, classes, studios--everything. Take Skinny Jeans for example (I’m acquiring a sheen just thinking about it). Liz’s is different than Kim’s is different than Brooke’s is different than Krista’s. If you take Lauren’s, it’s different every time. With it’s constantly rotating schedule, new classes, regular changes and adjustments to old ones, it’s practically impossible to get into a rut which I’m eternally grateful for.

   4. 5 times a week has really been the key for me. Ever since the spring edition of the challenge, when I began Lithe Diving back in April, I’ve really committed (ahem Kim and Kris) to going 5 times a week. That’s when the inches and lbs just started falling off (did I already ask if you wanted feel my arms?) The rule is, if I’m in Philly city limits, I’m going 5 times a week. If that means I have to take a 6am class, or get up early on a Saturday, then that’s what it means.

   5. When I’m working out consistently, I’m a happier more functional person outside of the studio. People often joke that Lithe Method is addictive or refer to it as a cult (perhaps Bela can design a robe we can work out in?). And if that’s the case, consider me a proud member. If I’m addicted to something, it’s the sense of accomplishment I feel when I walk out of a studio, steamy and fogged up from the efforts of 20 women pushing it to limit. If I have a drug of choice, it’s watching and feeling my body transform into something really strong and powerful that helps to carry me through life.

So, in a twist of irony, Kim filed for divorce exactly 1 year to the day that she met Kris at a New Jersey Nets game last Halloween (is that actually irony, or am I as confused as Alanis Morrissette in that song?). In other words, in the course of 1 year, she met Kris, dated him, got engaged, got married in a ceremony that MADE her money (I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, she’s an evil genius), and has filed for divorce. That’s a helluva year! And it only took the couple 72 of those 365 days to realize that they don’t want to be married anymore.

It took me only 30 days of Lithing 5 times a week (spring challenge) to start truly changing my body. To realize that I’m capable of really committing and following through with something--an accomplishment I used to think was impossible.

Ultimately, I think it only takes 1 day to make the decision that you’re going to really try and change your life, and I think that’s been my big take away from all of this--1 decision on 1 day can make all the difference. Best of luck to all those taking the fall challenge. I’ll be thinking about you and rooting for you (and looking forward to the Kim and Kris divorce special on E!)

See you in class!

I was definitely not made for the cold weather. Born and raised in Bermuda did not prepare me for the crisp fall mornings of October. I don't know about you guys, but this weather makes me want to snuggle under a nice warm blanket and stay in bed all day with some hot tea. There are so many beautiful things about fall that I never truly experienced until college, which I appreciate so much but the wonders of fall make me appreciate the splendors of summer. Bring back the warm weather!!!!!!!

When it gets chilly out I always start to reminisce about all the beautiful warm places I have been so blessed to have visited and lived in. Particularly Bermuda, but I have a special place in my heart for Rome. I spent a semester abroad there in my Junior year of college and visited this past February for a glorious 10 day vacation. GET ME BACK TO ROME.

I look back and think of all the memories I have made with my amazing friends and family and I can't wait to create new memories with them. My new and more positive outlook on life can only mean that there are more amazing memories to come and I can not wait another second.

Getting out of the house to work out takes more effort than usual for me when it's cold, but once I get there it is soooo worth it. This week I was stretched thin at work and busted my hump in the studio. I really worked hard.

I started my week with Brooke & Waist Not. Brooke and that class makes me leave feeling a major burn in my "abs" - still trying to find them in the mirror. Tuesday was another superb Thigh High w/ Joellyn. Upbeat & flawless. Wednesday I had another Waist Not w/ Stephanie. Just can't get enough of this class right now. Then I had three days in a row with Jess! Don't let that sweet smile fool you, she is no joke. I haven't seen her in ages and after Fat-Free, Stems and Rare Form I just want to keep coming back for more!  Fat Free about killed me. I sat in my car for at least 15 mins after class trying to catch my breath. As for Stems, this one might not be for me; I just have zero coordination but Rare Form leaves me feeling loose and ready for anything. Love that class.

I could eat Banana Chips & Peanut Butter Balls everyday for the rest of my life. Those Oat Cakes are DELISH. Greenie's continue to be my favorite juice. Love them. Lithe Granola is awesome and the Skewers are still killin it. The food is so yummy, I look forward to the meals and they leave me feeling satisfied. Week 4 is coming up and I'm pumped! Motivated and looking forward to this week and feeling great!

Special thanks to all the lithe ladies and their inspiring and encouraging comments and motivation. You guys work it hard in class and keep me inspired.

  Week 2

Week 2 - 3.5 lbs lost.

I am so thankful for this experience. The support and encouraging faces at the studio is overwhelming and really motivating. I am not a shy person. At all. But, I am a little self conscious and definitely keep to myself when I feel out of me element. The friendly and genuinely interested Lithers have really helped me open up at the studio and made me feel comfortable. Thank you.

This week was tough. Still no cheese and sticking to one Diet Coke a day has been a daily challenge, but its getting easier and easier. I have always been a very determined person and as soon as I decided that I was going to get my act together, get back in shape and start living again... I did just that. I literally decided one day that I was going to make a ton of changes, and then made them. It’s been almost a year and I’ve lost just over 100lbs. Around thanksgiving last year was when I snapped and couldn’t take being unhappy or uncomfortable anymore.

The people close to me who have been there from the beginning have seen significant changes. When you start doing something that makes you happy it really affects all aspects of your life and brings out the best in you. I know I have a lot of work to still do, and my journey is absolutely not over but this past year has changed my life.

I was athletic in high school, played tons of field hockey and worked out all the time. I am almost back down to the jean size I used to be able to wear and have so many things/people to thank for helping me get there.

Alright, that was deep. Now to the good stuff... The classes and foods! Had some early mornings this week… I reallllllllly like to sleep so that in itself was a challenge but as soon as I actually remove myself from the bed I’m okay.

Waspie on Monday – Bari got to witness me having a lithe moment when I was so into my breathing I just projectile spat. It happens to the best of us… you just pray it doesn’t land on anyone. Thankfully mine landed on the floor and Bari and I shared a laugh.. Awkward.., but I love starting my week with Waspie and with Bari. Still trying to tone up those arms!

Short Shorts on Tuesday – First timer over here and oh em gee my legs KILLED for days. Anne…. You are so toned its unreal and now I know why.

Waist Not on Wednesday – First timer again but this class got bumped up to top 3 fave for me. Stephanie is awesome and so is this class. The joy of taking a new class is that you don’t ever know when its going to end… this class just kept switching it up and it really kept me on my toes.

Skinny Jeans on Thursday – Oh kim! You’re excitement and energy is contagious. You make me want to lithe every second of everyday. Bow and Arrows…. Yeah my back felt that. Thanks!

High Mini on Friday – Gerri!!!!! You absolutely wake me up at 6am and push me really hard. I really love your classes and how you move around the room. Keeps me going and makes the class fly by.

Twiggy on Saturday – Lauren Lauren Lauren. OMG. You think you’ve taken a class and know what to expect, but take it with Lauren and its totally different. Stopping to correct form, making you do more high knees then I even knew I could do. Walked out of there out of breath and cherry faced. It was glorious.

My meals this week have been amazing. I really look forward to the snacks – those banana chips are sooooo good. Mushroom soup was a real hit. Haven’t had a cucumber all week (I keep mentioning them because I usually have them for lunch everyday with cream cheese… haven’t tried it? Give it a whirl. It will change your world – I mean cream cheese isn’t the beeest, but this combo is definitely worth a try). After class on Saturday morning I stocked up on some food for the weekend. Still excited... week three, here I come!
